Before I show you the
process of setting up a tent, I should tell you how to take care of it. Don't beat up your tent!
For starters, the tent can
NOT get wet! Do everything in your power to avoid getting the tent wet. That
includes keeping drinks outside and putting up a rain fly.
If the tent gets wet, it will take FOREVER to dry. If you put it away wet, it'll get all mildewy and start to rot. Tents are expensive. You do not want to keep buying them because you forgot to protect them from the rain.

You should not eat food
in the tent. That might sound a little weird, but food in the tent attracts
bugs and wild animals to your sleeping area. No one wants to wake up to bears
sniffing their way around your tent. That happened to me once. Besides
attracting animals, crumbs stick to you when you're walking around barefoot in
the tent. Can you imagine laying down in your sleeping bag and feeling crumbs
in there? Yuck.
Finally, be aware of
where you’re putting the tent. Choose a clear space with minimal debris on the
ground. If there are sticks everywhere, get rid of them. Don't forget to look
above where you stake the tent! A heavy, rotting branch is one strong gust away
from crushing your tent and, worst-case scenario, you inside it!
This was my first time
setting up a tent. The first video shows me working with my dad. It took us 20
minutes.

Then I did it by myself for the first time and that only took 10
minutes. Of course, I sped up the videos for you, but I wanted to note the
clear improvement!

Wow! I never knew that setting up tents can be difficult. I thought it only took a few minutes. It looks like you made a lot of progress over the course of two weeks!
ReplyDeleteI've only ever gone actually camping twice in my life. Sometimes in the summer though, my brother and I will pitch a small tent and camp out in the backyard. I actually find setting up the tent to be a decently fun process, though there's been more than a few times where we've mixed up the poles. It's also pretty impressive that you managed to cut down half the time by just the second time! Great montages and background music
ReplyDeleteHi Emmie! I loved watching your improvement - pretty remarkable that with half the hands you still cut your own time setting up a tent in half. I would have thought that less hands would make it harder to set up, but I guess not. Were you just focusing on the set-up, or also the breaking down of the tent? That can be a big part of camping too, especially since there's probably a wrong way and a right way to do it. Good luck on everything, Bear Grylls!
ReplyDeleteNice job Emmie! I'm seriously impressed with your tent-making skills. Every summer, I live in a tent for three weeks with my friends, so if you ever need helping putting up or taking down a tent at four A.M, I'm your gal. I have had lots of experience trying to get water out from under the tent because the smell of mildew is HORRID! Anyways, awesome blog! Putting up a tent under ten minutes is much harder than it looks, so good job!

I really like how you've structured your blog as an instructional piece. It adds an interesting element to it, and it makes your reader feel like they're experiencing these things with you. It's interesting to see how much you've improved in such a short amount of time.
ReplyDeleteNicely done!
ReplyDeleteSetting up a tent is an essential part of camping, and I am glad that you decided to show us how in this blog post. Your video was fun to watch, and I hope you make more. You topic is pretty cool and I am sure you have a lot more to share.
